TIA Portal V21.1 new features and licensing graphic with industrial PLC equipment and an engineering laptop.

Looking for the TIA Portal V22 release date, download or new features? Siemens’ official announcements for SPS 2026 identify TIA Portal V21.1 as the next major update to its automation engineering framework.

At the time of this update, we have not found an official Siemens V22 release announcement or download. The confirmed news centres on V21.1, including a different approach to licensing, expanded engineering capabilities and WinCC Unified improvements.

Is TIA Portal V22 being released in 2026?

A TIA Portal V22 release date has not been verified from the official Siemens sources reviewed for this article.

Siemens’ SPS 2026 press material explicitly names V21.1. This makes V21.1 the release to follow when researching the company’s announced engineering developments for late 2026.

That does not establish that Siemens will never use the V22 name. It means claims about a V22 launch, download or specification should not be treated as confirmed.

TIA Portal V21.1 changes the licensing approach

The most significant announcement concerns how customers access software improvements.

In its SPS topic overview, Siemens says V21.1 separates installed software from licensing. It describes a model in which customers purchase features rather than versions, with continuing software and security updates.

Siemens also says customers switching to the new approach will no longer need time-consuming project upgrades.

For engineering teams, this could reduce the effort spent coordinating software versions across projects and service laptops. That is a potential practical benefit, rather than a compatibility guarantee: licence entitlements and project behaviour should be checked against the release documentation.

What new features has Siemens announced?

Siemens identifies these V21.1 developments:

AreaAnnounced change
Version controlExpanded SIMATIC Source Documents for version control and continuous integration
PLC engineeringImproved data block handling
HMI engineeringResponsive design for device-independent applications
AI assistanceConnection to Eigen Engineering Agent

WinCC Unified V21.1: announced improvements

Siemens’ SPS Digital Experience page gives a more detailed preview of WinCC Unified V21.1.

AreaAnnounced improvements
EngineeringA new 50k Engineering licence and responsive design
OpennessVersion control and MasterCopy handling
ConnectivityOPC UA HA Server, MQTT custom payload and Tag Collaboration
Recipe handlingImprovements involving Parameter Control and SIQENCE
StandardisationModule Type Package (MTP) and Control Function Library (CFL)

For HMI developers, responsive design and expanded Openness capabilities are particularly interesting areas to investigate. A useful evaluation would be to test a representative motor faceplate, alarm view and overview screen on the intended operator devices.

These are announced capabilities. Their supported targets, configuration requirements and licensing need to be confirmed in the product documentation.

Is V21.1 the same as V21 Update 1?

No: Siemens uses different names for these releases.

Siemens’ V21 version-numbering guide gives 21.0.1.0 as the technical number for V21 Update 1. Its SPS material separately identifies the forthcoming development as V21.1.

The same guide explains that updates contain cumulative improvements, while hotfixes address critical issues. A reference to V21 Update 1 should therefore not be used as evidence that V21.1 is already installed or available.

When will more information be available?

Siemens lists a presentation called “TIA Portal V21.1: The start of a new era” for 24 November 2026, from 09:30 to 09:40 CET.

Siemens UK&I also lists “TIA Portal: What’s new in V21.1?” for 8 December 2026 at 10am in its Connected by Design webinar series.

These provide opportunities to learn more, but an event date should not be confused with a confirmed software download date.

TIA Portal V22 download: what is confirmed?

We have not verified an official TIA Portal V22 download.

Use Siemens’ official support and product pages to check software availability, release notes and licence requirements. For V21.1, confirm the installation package and supported environment before planning a project migration.

If you are comparing the announced changes with the existing release, see our TIA Portal V21 overview.

Frequently asked questions

Has TIA Portal V22 been cancelled?

We have not found an official cancellation statement. Siemens’ published SPS 2026 material announces V21.1; it does not establish the future of the V22 name.

Will V21.1 work with my existing licence?

Siemens’ event preview says users can continue with their existing licence while gaining flexibility to access new features. Check the entitlements for your specific STEP 7, WinCC and optional products before purchasing or upgrading.

Is Eigen exclusive to V21.1?

No. Siemens has previously announced Eigen availability for TIA Portal V19, V20 and V21. Its connection to V21.1 should not be interpreted as its first appearance in TIA Portal.
